Cress Harvesting Machine
ZTI has specifically developed a machine in cooperation with Van Der Plas Sprouts that allows microgreens to be cut. "Previously, this was all done by hand. Not only was that quite heavy and monotonous work, but the sprouts were also never cut to exactly the same length. And we prefer to handle the delicate microgreens as little as possible." says Eva van der Plas director at Van der Plas Sprouts.
The new machine not only provides the previously mentioned benefits but also increases productivity. Van der Plas: “We now process five racks per hour, whereas before it was four per hour. But back then, we also had two people cutting. So, the process is faster and more efficient with two fewer employees. They can now be deployed elsewhere. This way, the machine pays for itself.”
The development of this machine was made possible thanks to the Just Transition Fund subsidy that ZTI received. This EU subsidy program is intended for innovations that contribute to the energy transition and a more sustainable working and living environment.
